Young offenders: Where’s the punishment?

I have just read that there has been a stabbing in Blyth, Northumberland. Reason this is a shock to me is because I used to live in Bedlington, which is close to Blyth. And also because me and my dad drove past the flowers etc last week when we were on an appointment in that area.

Reading the article on the Journal website had just annoyed me even more. It was two teenage girls who stabbed Chris Chapman, one has been identified as Megan Hope from Ashington but the other cannot be named for legal reasons as she is only 16.

They murdered a 24 year old man and one cannot be named for legal reasons? She should be named and shamed! In fact they should be bloody flogged in Blyth town centre! They are nothing but complete scum bags who deserve way more than a prison sentence.

Reading the article about them appearing in court and it says that their defence claimed that they were both in a weak and distressed condition after having very little to eat in 48 hours… Well that is just tough! The Magistrates Court did not have the power to bail and so they have been sent to Newcastle Crown Court where trial will be heard on the 27th April.

Hope has been remanded in custody and the 16-year-old girl has been remanded in the custody of the local authority with a security requirement. I think this is madness. Why should she have a security requirement? In case she gets beaten up? I think she deserves it! If anyone gets a hold of her and gives her a bloody good kicking it is the least she deserves. She and the other scummy slut have ruined a family’s life, they have taken a son away from his mother. What right did they have to play god?

The article doesn’t say why they had stabbed him, but this is just another bit of proof that youth crime is getting worse in this country. Many people think that it is just in the south end of the country, that most of the knife and gun crimes happen in London, but there has been a rise in crime through out the country, not just in the south.

So why do youth’s feel the need to carry weapons? Well according to poll results on googtoknow.co.uk, 53% of people who took part blamed the parents for the rise in youth’s carrying weapons. But is it the parents to blame?

Well yes and no, society is also to blame for a lot of the crimes youths are getting involved with. Many young people carry a knife, or in some cases guns, because they feel threatened or have a fear of being attacked, many have admitted that they carry the weapons strictly for self defence and that they don’t intend on using them, but sometimes things get out of hand and it results in people or themselves getting hurt.

It is a problem that is getting worse and will continue to get worse in the future. Tougher prison sentences are not going to solve this as many 16 year old’s that have been in young offenders institutes, are going to know the system. They are going to know that they could re-offend, as the court will just put them back inside for a few months, or years, depending on their crime. Then they will be back out to commit yet another crime. It is a never-ending cycle.

People who offend when they are young are very unlikely to turn their lives around in adult life. And most people who offend when they are young, will re-offend in more serious crimes when they are adults.

Is this the future we want for our children to be brought up in? I reckon by the time I have children, it won’t be safe to let them out of the house until they are in their 20’s due to the amount of youth crime influence that is out there.

Society has turned completely crazy and it is only going to get worse, unless the Government get out of the EU and bring back the death toll and corporal punishment. I honestly do think that if we had kept the National Service Law then there wouldn’t be as many young offenders. The only thing I would change is that if you were a young offender, male or female, you would be made to do national service, for at least 3 years.
In my opinion, young offenders should be made to be posted out to Afghanistan to replace the soldiers that have been lost in battle.

I do not see how they can get off so lightly with crimes as serious as murdering someone? I would say “right if you were big enough to carry a gun you are big enough to fight for your country”. But most of them aren’t big and clever they are pathetic little wastes of space who should be taught a serious lesson when it comes to obeying the law. Young offenders institutes and prisons are not the way forward.
